Welcome to Boxer Spirit!
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the name of our university?
We are still Pacific University. In most cases, such as written communication, please use "Pacific University" when referring to the name of our institution. In conversation, please add a geographical locator such as, "in Oregon," "in Forest Grove, Oregon," "in Hillsboro, Oregon" and so on.
Have our school colors changed?
No. They are still red and black. The red in the new logo is a slightly different shade. The words, "Pacific University Oregon" in the logo are a shade of black softening the image to convey the warm, personal nature of Pacific University.
Where do I get new apparel?
The following vendors have approved logo wear and signage options available for you to purchase individually or order for your program or department: Barnes & Noble University Bookstore, RocketPromo, Miracle Sign, Scappoose Outfitters, EDNA, and Signmeisters. More vendors will be available soon. If you have a specific vendor you work with now, please contact Lance Kissler (lkissler@pacificu.edu) to arrange for the vendor to receive approved logo artwork. The University Bookstore will have limited new apparel in December 2008.
Do student clubs and organizations get new logos?
Student clubs and organizations may use the new logo. However, personalized logos will not be created for these groups, nor should they “personalize” or use parts of the new logo to make their own. If they have their own logo, they may continue to use it. We ask that they try to place the university logo on their materials as well.
When will the University change its website design?
The university's web team is currently implementing interim steps to update the website to reflect the new identity. Over the next few years, the website will be completely redesigned to offer better navigation, functionality, with a new look and feel.
Is there a place on the website to get standards on the new identity?
Yes, go to www.pacificu.edu/newlogo to download the new logo, templates and identity standards guide. This information is also available on the jump drives.
How do I get my new e-mail signature?
To setup your new e-mail signature, contact Lance Kissler at lkissler@pacificu.edu for instructions.
Do we all have to say "Go Boxers" in our e-mail signatures?
No, the new e-mail signature is just a suggested signature. Individuals may remove components, such as the "Go Boxers" or the sustainability statement if they so choose. It is important to keep in mind that these elements were built in to promote spirit and pride, as well as show our commitment to sustainability. Please use your best professional judgment when including other items into your signature.
What should my voicemail greeting be?
Here is a suggested voicemail greeting: "Hello, you've reached [NAME] at Pacific University in [CITY], Oregon. I am unable to take your call right now. Please leave your name, number and a brief message, and I'll return your call as quickly as possible. Thank you for calling and go Boxers!" Feel free to personalize with your program/department name and other pertinent information.
How do I get new stationery and business cards?
Contact your administrative assistant or visit the Service Center to request business cards, letterhead, note cards and labels. A PDF of the business card is attached. The Service Center will have display examples of the complete stationery package in November.
As in the past, varied sized and windowed envelopes will also be available from the Service Center.
You can place your orders now and orders will be printed and ready for distribution by mid-November.
NOTE: Recognizing that the Service Center will have many requests to fulfill, if you have an ample supply and can wait until December or January to receive your order, please let Shana know.
Do I need to have new stationery and business cards right away?
Ideally you will begin to use the new logo stationery and business cards between mid-November and mid-March. In keeping with our sustainability efforts, please deplete your supply of old logo stationery and business cards before ordering new. By March 1, 2009, everyone should be utilizing the new identity on all forms of communication.
If your supply is extensive, consider requesting the Service Center to make note pads from your old supply of stationery, and use envelopes interdepartmental communication.
How do I get a new name badge?
As in the past, you can place your order for name badges with your administrative assistant. Provide your name, title and unit or department. If you've already placed your order, and it is on hold, your name badge will automatically be delivered by mid-December or sooner. For new or replacement orders, you are encouraged to place your order by December 10 for delivery of badges in January. Future orders will take approximately two weeks to fulfill.

Can we separate the Boxer head from the words in the logo?
In most cases, no. Please contact MarCom before doing so. The purpose of an integrated logo is to communicate a unified and consistent message. It is important for our audiences to identify the Boxer artwork with "Pacific University" and our geographical identifier "Oregon."
Where do I get a personalized logo?
MarCom will provide certain departments, colleges and centers with personalized logos. All former logos will need to be phased out through the Spring 2009 term. Contact MarCom to obtain your personalized logo.
If we are meeting with external people, are there giveaways we can use or order?
Individual departments are responsible for the costs of their own promotional items. The Office of Marketing & Communications (MarCom) is happy to assist in identifying promotional items, preparing artwork and ordering them through vendors. MarCom and the Alumni Relations Office have limited giveaway items. Please don't hesitate to contact us for assistance.
What fonts should I use?
Approved and suggested fonts include: Adobe Garamond Pro, Frutiger, Georgia and Verdana.
What are our key messages and how do I use them?
Our comprehensive key messages are: Pacific is Personal; Tradition with Texture; and Life Unfolds at Pacific. Ideally you would use all three messages when telling the Pacific story, however you may want to use only one at a time, depending on the situation. Over the next few months, the Integrated Marketing Team will be visiting with individual departments to provide more extensive training on how to use the key messages in everyday conversation, ad/brochure copy, speeches and web pages.
Have the editorial standards and style guidelines changed?
At the moment, no. They are currently under review. If and when changes are made, MarCom will update the campus community. Please continue to use pages 14-17 in the previous standards guide. If you need a copy of this document, contact MarCom.
